State Insurance Laws
In Arizona, the Motor Vehicle Division has a focus on making sure that people on the state roads and highways are protected and safe. In keeping with this goal of safety, state laws require that all vehicles maintain liability insurance through a company that is authorized to provide auto insurance in the state. In order to avoid possible suspension of your license or vehicle registration, you must adhere to the state guidelines, which can be very strict.
If you are driving in Arizona on vacation or on a temporary basis, be sure that your insurance provider is licensed in the state in order to avoid a potential violation. If you will not be driving a vehicle that you have registered, you may have it de-insured by filling out a De-Insured Certificate form which is available online. This will allow you to keep the vehicle registration current while not paying for insurance premiums.
Also keep in mind that the amounts mentioned here are minimum requirements. They may not be sufficient to fully cover the damage or injury caused in an accident that may be your fault. Without sufficient coverage, you may become personally legally liable for any additional expenses above and beyond what your insurance provides for.
